Sylvia Iris Wells

Sylvia Iris Wells, 96, of Traer, IA passed away peacefully Friday, February 16, 2024, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Sylvia was born December 8, 1927, in Linn Grove, IA, the daughter of Vincent and Ella (Lundt) Sanderson. She graduated from Maynard High School in Maynard, IA in 1945. She married David Matthew Wells on June 10, 1945 at the Randalia Methodist Church.  They were together 57 years until his death in 2002. 

David and Sylvia farmed outside of Randalia, IA, where they raised three children: Gloria, Bill and Cynthia.  Sylvia was a farm wife, which meant spending many days with David working the crops and livestock, as well as raising chickens and maintaining a large garden. She was active in the community and held many offices with Fayette Farm Bureau and the Randalia Methodist Church. Sylvia’s number one priority was supporting her three children with their athletic and musical activities.

Russell Clarence Lauer, 92, of West Union, Iowa was called home by our heavenly father on Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2024, at his home. Russell was born on July 2, 1931, at the family farm near Eldorado, IA to Clarence and Clara (Buhmann) Lauer.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, IA.  He grew up in Eldorado, IA on the family farm until his father died and then moved to West Union, IA.  He graduated from West Union High School in 1949.  Go 49ers!

Russell was united in marriage to Irene Shirley Blue on September 11,1960.  Six children were born to this union: Debbie, Gregory, Gary, Mark, Gerald, and David.

Michael R. Steinbronn, 69, of Fayette, died Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Fayette Opera House. Kenneth Glenwood Jennings

Kenneth Glenwood Jennings, 96 of formerly of West Union, Iowa passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Kenneth was born January 24, 1928 in Wadena, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Blanche (Goranson Whittenbaugh) Jennings. He grew up on a farm in Volga and graduated Valedictorian in the Class of 1946. He married Kathryn Light on August 6, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in West Union, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, David and Christine.

Kenneth and Kathryn made their home and farmed in Volga, later moving to a farm in Randalia. They also lived in Maynard and McGregor, where Kenneth worked as a carpenter for Great Plains Supply and as a private contractor. In retirement, they moved to West Union. Kenneth was a life-long learner and reader of non-fiction. His greatest joy was watching and hearing about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their many interests.

Ida Mae Harford, 88, of Ely, passed away on February 16, 2024, at Sunrise Hill Nursing Home in Traer, Iowa. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids.  Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Lowell Robert Corlett

Lowell Robert Corlett, 74 of Castalia, Iowa lost his battle with Leukemia on February 16, 2024 at his home in Castalia. He was born to Earle and Irene (Kishman) Corlett on April 30, 1949 in Decorah, Iowa. Lowell was baptized, confirmed and a life-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. He attended Castalia Community School through the fifth grade and graduated from Postville High School in 1967. He then attended Wisconsin State College in La Crosse, Wisconsin for two years. Lowell was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 and was stationed in Vietnam for one year, he was honorable discharged in 1971.

Duane "Fritz" Balk

Duane "Fritz" Balk, age 86 of Waucoma, Iowa, died Friday January 19, 2024 at the Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union from complications of dementia and heart failure.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma, IA, with Rev. Nick Radloff celebrating the Mass.

Friends may greet the family 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Waucoma Event Center.  Visitation continues an hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.
