Gertrude Eleanore Hageman, age 93, of Calmar, IA died Sunday, December 31, 2017, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Gertrude Eleanore (Loesch) Hageman was born June 2, 1924, to Philip and Eleanore (Bouska) Loesch on the family farm west of Spillville. She attended St. Wenceslaus School.  Gertrude married Conrad Hageman on August 20, 1946, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.  To this union eight children were born and together they farmed east of Calmar.  Gertrude was active in the farming operation; she raised many chickens, preserved produce from her large garden and nurtured many beautiful flowers. Gertrude was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and choir. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, coloring, making Christmas ornaments, bingo and especially her family.

Gertrude is survived by eight children: Mary Lou Hageman (Dick Headington) Decorah, IA; Tom (Denise) Hageman, Ossian, IA; Howard (Sandy) Hageman, Elk City, OK; Twins: Linda (Jim) Lukes, Decorah, IA and Lois (Cliff) Holthaus, Decorah, IA; Twins: Sue (Tim) Broderick, Decorah, IA and Sam (Lisa) Hageman, Ft. Atkinson, IA and Roy (Patty) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. In laws: Lucy Hageman, Ossian, IA; Rose (Linus) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA; Paul (Colleen) Hageman, Decorah, IA Martha (Ed) Mikota, Ossian, IA.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Conrad March 19, 2006; parents Philip and Eleanore (Bouska) Loesch; Grandchildren: Jonathan Lukes, Jennifer Lukes Murphy, Patrick Kirkland, and Jason Fleshner; Sister: Norma (Al) Kuennen; Father and mother-in-law Joseph and Elizabeth Hageman; In-laws: Arnold Hageman, Catherine (Leo) Ott, Anna (Edward) Ondrashek. Gertrude’s farewell greeting was always Dobrou noc (Good Night) when we tucked her in for the night.   “Dobrou noc”. She had a mass of Christian burial at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018. The Clergy was Rev. Robert Gross and Rev. Donald Hawes. The Lector was Jim Lukes. The Eucharistic Ministers were Nancy Roush, Ellen Sauer, and Kay Heying. The mass servers were Ben Hageman, Kinze Shea, and Aidan Holthaus. Offertory gifts, Gertrude’s granddaughters. Casketbearers, Gertrude’s grandsons. Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar, Iowa. Arrangements by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel.
