Swimmers 4th at Conference Meet

 

 

The West Union swim team finished fourth at the Conference Meet on Saturday in Strawberry Point.

The boys finished the season on a high note, placing second at Saturday’s meet.

Among the quality efforts of the runners-up, were the 15-and-up medley relay of Matt Appler, Mariah Wettleson, Justin Kueker, and Faith   Johnston (third), and the 13-14 medley relay of Nick Koch, Hunter Kent-Thomas, Aiden Nelson and Sam Thomas (fourth). 

Individually, Sam Nefzger won the 50 freestyle, and Kueker won the 200 intermediate, while Appler was runner-up in the 50 freestyle and Nelson was second in the 50 fly. Ryan Wettleson and Decklyn Heins placed third in their age groups in the 50 freestyle.

Earlier in the week, the swimmers concluded the home season Tuesday, July 18, with a 372-294 loss to Cresco.

The girls’ 8-and-under had three winners as Sophia Gardner, Leah Shreve and Ella Sieck claimed gold in the 25 breaststroke, 25 backstroke, and 25 butterfly, respectively.
