The 164th Fayette County Fair, July 25-29, will kick off a week of events in the Grandstand with a bang with The Johnny Rogers Show: “The History of Rock-’n’-Roll — Buddy and Beyond.”

The unofficial start to the fair, the Fayette County Queen Coronation and Pie Auction, will take place an hour earlier (6 p.m.) in the Bandstand this year to accommodate the act in the Grandstand at 7 p.m.

Rogers’ website noted that his act will transport music lovers back to when a guy could go to the malt shop with his favorite girl and dance to their favorite band. Entitled “The History of Rock-’n’-Roll — Buddy and Beyond,” Rogers will show off his uncanny resemblance to Buddy Holly and pay tribute to other legendary rock stars, including Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, and Ray Orbison.

He’ll end the show with a tribute to rock-’n’-roll legend Elvis Presley.

The musician has performed all over the world, including Germany and Netherlands, and many places domestically, including New York, Las Vegas, and Chicago. It’s a show any early-rock fan won’t want to miss. The best part, tickets are only $10.

With events in the Grandstand every evening of the fair, those wishing to attend all shows should buy VIP tickets in advance. At normal tickets prices, seeing every event would cost $60, but area residents can get VIP tickets to all five shows at $20 off. VIP tickets are on sale at the West Union Chamber — A Main Street Community office, Unionland Feed & Supply in West Union, and the Oelwein Chamber and Area Development office.

The other events in the Grandstand include races on Wednesday night, Tuff-n-Nuff Miniature Rodeo on Thursday, a Demolition Derby on Friday, and Arch Allies in concert on Saturday.

For those looking for less expensive options, there will be plenty of free entertainment in the Bandstand throughout the week.

Amusement Associates, LLC of Chariton will be the new midway at the Fayette County Fair this year. The company will also be operating at the Allamakee and Clayton county fairs this year. The company guarantees 12 rides, but could bring as many as 16, which is what it had at the Allamakee County Fair last year.

Wristbands are on sale now at $20 for a four-hour session of unlimited riding. There will also be individual tickets available for purchase. The wristbands can be purchased at Unionland Feed & Supply in West Union.
