Jonathan P. “Jon” Steege, 69, of Maynard, Iowa died Saturday evening, June 10, 2017 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard with Rev. Dennis Frank officiating.

Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and after 9:30 A.M. Thursday at the church.

Interment: Hope Cemetery, rural Westgate, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed in his name to Living Lands Fellowship Fund with Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

Jonathan Paul Steege was born May 31, 1948 at Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Victor and Dorothy Lavonne (Thomae) Steege.  

In 1966, he graduated from West Central High School in Maynard.  

On May 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Diana Timmerman at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa.  

Jon farmed in the Maynard area.  He was also employed by Fayette County as the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Manager for 25 years.  

Jon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard and Pheasants Forever. He was a Hunter Safety instructor for over 30 years. 

Jon enjoyed Farmall Tractors, conservation, hunting, cowboy poetry and traveling to Montana and Colorado. 

Jon is survived by his wife: Kathy Steege of Maynard; son: Paul (Kaye) Steege of Cedar Rapids; daughter: Larissa (Troy) Rasmussen of Jackson, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Andrew and Elise Rasmussen; sister: Stephanie Steege of Maynard; mother-in-law: Delores Timmerman of Decorah; step-mother-in-law: Betty Timmerman of Decorah;

brother-in-law: Gary Timmerman of Decorah; and sister-in-law: Becky Timmerman of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law: Wayne Timmerman.            24u24
