A West Union man was arrested in connection with burglaries at Quillin’s grocery store and Subway restaurant in West Union.

Cody Williams, 31, of West Union was arrested Monday evening, May 15, and charged with two counts of theft in the second degree; theft in the fourth degree; burglary in the first degree; and burglary in the second degree.

Approximately eight minutes after midnight on the morning of May 15, Williams unlawfully entered Quillin’s grocery store. Over the course of the next 90 minutes he removed a number of items from the store, including cigarettes, alcohol, canned food, Kingsford charcoal and meat products.

Surveillance footage from the store shows the subject wearing all black, with a black ski mask with eye holes, black gloves, and shoes that had distinct markings.

While Williams was busy taking items from Quillin’s, he was able to avoid detection by an employee who was working in the store’s bakery.

Once the theft was discovered, the West Union Police Department (WUPD) was immediately notified. After an initial investigation, the West Union Police went to question Williams, who had been questioned as a person of interest in the Subway robbery on Tuesday, May 2. Williams wasn’t home, but a little later WUPD received a call to have a car removed from the West Union Cemetery.

Upon further investigation, the car was discovered to belong to Williams. Inside the car, officers could see cases of Black Velvet liquor, a case of Southern Comfort liquor, a case of Busch Light, Kingsford charcoal, and rolls of coins, which was the primary currency taken from Subway.

WUPD then obtained a search warrant for Williams’ car and home and discovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen property from Quillin’s.

Williams was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Law Enforcement Center.
