John "Mike" McKee

John Michael “Mike” McKee, 69, of Decorah, Iowa died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at his home in Decorah, Iowa. John was born on November 28, 1945 to John R. and Carolyn (March) McKee in Indianola, Iowa. He graduated high school in Indianola and attended Iowa State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Farm Operations. 

Mike was united in marriage to Dorothy Koethke on January 16, 1976 at Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa. They raised three children, Kelly, Patrick and Martha. Mike joined the Northeast Iowa Farm Business Association in 1973, where he was hired by farmers to do their bookkeeping and tax preparation. He loved sailing and was building his own 38’ sailboat. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and he was very mechanical.

Mike is survived by his three children, Kelly (Rosemary) Rice of Chicago, Illinois, Patrick McKee of San Diego, California, and Martha (Daniel) Paterson of Washington D.C.; four grandchildren, Tristin McKee, Conor Rice, Abigail Rice, and Elijah Paterson; his mother, Carolyn McKee and two brothers, Mark (Lynne) McKee of Carlisle, Iowa and Steven McKee of Indianola, Iowa.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2013; his father, John McKee and a brother, David McKee.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 4-7 pm at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
