Winneshiek County voters went to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4, for the 2014 general election. Of the 13,225 registered voters in the county, 8,360 ballots were cast, which is roughly a 63 percent turnout.

The unofficial results are as follows:

Republican Joni Ernst edged Democratic opponent Bruce Braley in the U.S. Senate race. Ernst received 3,956 of the votes in Winneshiek County, compared to 3,392 for Braley.

In the U.S. Representative race for District 1, Republican Rod Blum was victorious over Democratic challenger Pat Murphy. In Winneshiek County, however, Murphy received 4,120 votes, compared to 4,008 for Blum.

Incumbent Republican Governor Terry Branstad was successful in his bid for re-election over Democratic challenger Jack Hatch, 661,704 - 417,177. In Winneshiek County, the trend held true with Branstad receiving 4,793 votes over 3,271 for Hatch.

As of Wednesday, Nov. 5, the District 55 election was won by Republican candidate Darrel Branhagen. He edged his Democratic opponent, Rick Edwards, in the overall race 5,955 – 5,924, a margin of only 31 votes. Edwards outgained Branhagen in Winneshiek County, 3,883 - 3,426.

In the County Treasurer race, Republican Wayne Walter was successful in his re-election run, as were Teresa Bockman in the County Recorder and Republican Andrew F. Van Der Maaten in the County Attorney elections. All three incumbents ran unopposed.
