Wind, rain, lightning, and injuries — the Lady Warrior track team has seen it all this season, and last week was no exception.

The week began at Ed-Co on Monday, May 5, and concluded at Monona in the UIC Track Meet on Thursday amid lightning delays.

Looking to compete for third place overall, the cancellation of one of South Winn’s strongest events, the high jump, potentially cost the team 10 points, the difference between third and fifth.

“Considering the circumstances we faced, our team finished as well as we possibly could,” acknowledged SW coach Kevin Kearney. “We have some kids who have been limited due to injury as well.”

In spite of struggling with an injury for the past few weeks, junior Lexie Warth was able to claim the 100m hurdle conference title and is on the verge of breaking coach Darcy Einck’s record.

Warth was also the anchor of the second-place shuttle hurdle quartet with Amber Brincks, Abby Phillips, and Kennidee DeVilbiss.

Brittany Shindelar continued to post strong throws in both the shot put and discus, placing first and third, respectively.

Posting the best 400m hurdle time of her career was senior DeVilbiss in 1:09.71 to finish in second place.

Freshman Josie Kriener was in the forefront of the 1500m race, crossing the finish line in second place in 5:21.49.

Becca Hertges combined with Shindelar, DeVilbiss, and Kriener in the distance medley race to finish with a silver as well.
