NFV boys end regular season

The North Fayette Valley boys’ basketball team ended the regular season with a pair of UIC wins. Tuesday, NFV beat Starmont, 60-43, and Friday it knocked off Turkey Valley, 45-33.

Tuesday at home, the TigerHawks swamped Starmont, 60-43.

NFV built a 20-12 first-quarter lead, but the Stars rallied in the next quarter to tie the game at 28-28.

The TigerHawks pretty much owned the second half, outscoring the visitors, 18-6, in the third quarter and 14-9 over the final eight minutes.

Trystan Riley led NFV with 13 points, including a 3-6 effort from downtown.

Alec Callahan added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Phil Kleve put in eight points, and Lincoln Johansen scored seven points.

Friday’s home game saw both the TigerHawk and Trojan offenses start very slowly as NFV led, 3-0, at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams heated up in the next eight minutes, combining for 28 points. NFV went into the locker room at the half leading, 18-13.

TV came out blazing to start the third quarter, tying the game at 27-27 going into the final eight minutes.

However, NFV operated on all eight cylinders on both offense and defense in the final quarter. The TigerHawks blitzed the Trojans, 18-6, over the final eight minutes to walk off with the win and a 7-4 record in the UIC, good for fifth place.

Both teams had 33 rebounds, but NFV went 15-22 from the free throw line to 7-15 for the Trojans. The TigerHawks also made two more baskets (14-12) than the scarlet and red.

Alex Callahan led the TigerHawks on both ends of the court, scoring a dozen points and grabbing eight rebounds. Thomas Hanson and Austin Callahan scored eight points apiece.
