The South Winn girls’ basketball team is peaking at the right moment after playing four games in five days and winning all four, including a pair over Starmont.

vs. Starmont

Holding a 21-12 lead at halftime, the Lady Warriors were no match for Starmont in a quick-paced offensive onslaught that handed South Winn its first win of the busy week, 46-37.

Abby Phillips paced the scoring assault with 10 points and grabbed seven caroms.

vs. West Central

Big first and second quarters for South Winn saw a 36-15 advantage as the Blue Devils and Lady Warriors broke for halftime. The stellar SW defense held up in the second half to hold West Central to just three points as the Lady Warriors defeated WC, 63-18.

Payton Poshusta and Micole Lansing led the team with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Lansing connected for a quartet of three-pointers in the contest. P. Poshusta also collected six boards, as did Megan Elsbernd.

vs. North Fayette Valley

Despite trailing, 9-6, after the first quarter, the Lady Warriors remained undaunted with the task at hand on the road Thursday at North Fayette Valley. South Winn regrouped to claim a 15-11 halftime advantage.

A big 20-point third quarter gave the Lady Warriors the cushion they needed to claim the 42-22 victory.

Topping the scoring chart was Payton Poshusta with 17 points, followed by Abby Phillips, who connected for seven.

vs. Starmont

On Friday, the Lady Warriors never allowed the Stars to get into rhythm as they sprang out to a 13-4 first-quarter lead. South Winn added another 29 tallies before halftime and held Starmont to just five second-half points en route to a 64-14 victory.

Senior Micole Lansing was on fire from beyond the three-point line, draining seven treys and tallying a team-high 25 points in the contest. She also dished out seven assists and had four steals.

Kennidee DeVilbiss and Megan Elsbernd did their part in rebounding with five apiece while Lansing and Abby Phillips snagged four caroms each.

The Lady Warriors will wrap up the 2013-14 regular season on the road Thursday in a nonconference matchup versus Decorah.

After one day of rest, South Winn will take on MFL/MarMac in the Regional opening game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in Monona.
