The North Fayette Valley girls’ basketball team split a pair of road games last week. Friday, Jan. 31, they won a UIC matchup at West Central, 45-34, and the next day dropped a 40-34 decision in Oelwein.

Friday’s game in Maynard was nip and tuck until the final four minutes when North Fayette Valley guard Regan Wolverton took over the game.

The TigerHawks led almost the entire game, but they could never get more than six or seven points ahead before the Blue Devils would put on a spurt.

NFV held a 22-20 lead at the half, and each team canned nine points in the third quarter.

With four minutes to play, WC’s Kaitlyn Ruff drained a trey to pull the Devils to within two, 36-34. That was it for the Devils who would not score again. Meanwhile NFV’s Wolverton scored eight of the TigerHawks’ final nine points, including 6-6 from the free throw line.

In all, Wolverton had a game-high 18 points; she also tied Shelby Lehmann for team honors in rebounds with five.

As a team, NFV went 22-35 from the charity stripe to 4-15 for the home team. WC’s Jenni Hollinrake had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 boards.
