Charles "Chuck" Learn

 

Charles “Chuck” Albert Learn was born on June 17, 1952, in West Union, Iowa, to Howard and Helen (Plaster) Learn. He graduated from North High in West Union in 1971.

Chuck was united in marriage to Joan Messler on August 30, 1975, at the United Methodist Church in Postville, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

During high school, Chuck worked at Ken’s Conoco; later, he was a salesman for Archer Oil. He was a lifelong crop farmer and also dairy farmed until 2007. Chuck recently worked for Rupp Air Management Systems in West Union. Chuck was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa.

Chuck passed away on December 25, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Chuck enjoyed working outside on the farm. He loved visiting and telling stories with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing cards and wood-carving. Chuck was an advocate for organ donation, having received a liver transplant in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, of West Union; three daughters, Amy Learn of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Andrea Learn of Portland, Oregon; and Sarah (Justin) Brincks of Clermont, Iowa; mother, Helen Learn of West Union; two sisters, Ramona (Ron) Moeller and Marilyn (Mike) Kuhn; brother, James (Renae) Learn; two grandchildren, Isaac Howard Brincks and Eve Marianne Brincks; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union. Burial will follow in West Union Cemetery.

A public visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, from 4 pm until 7 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union.
