The Warriors split last week on the court, but remained one of the only two undefeated teams in the UIC with a 73-53 win over Kee High on Tuesday. Saturday’s nonconference tussle with with New Hampton was a bit lopsided as South Winn had an unusual amount of turnovers in their passing game to fall, 65-33.

vs. Kee High

South Winn showcased why they are one of the top teams in the conference in the first stanza as it ran out to an 18-9 lead with the help of Trevor Schweinefus who threw down 13 of the team’s first-quarter points.

The domination continued into the second period but it was Jordan Rommes shouldering much of the scoring with nine points in the paint as the teams retired to the locker room at halftime, 39-23, in favor of the Warriors.

Despite several Kee High treys in the third, South Winn continued to extend its lead to, 58-38, including a last-second shot and foul from Andre Walz in an old-fashioned three-point play.

Shortly after the final period began, SW coach Chris Streeter removed his starting lineup from the floor to allow the younger players valuable court time.

Pacing the scoring assault for the Warriors were Rommes with 21 points; T. Schweinefus and Adam Lensing added to that tally with 19 and 10, respectively.

Lensing notched the team’s only double-double with 10 caroms followed by Walz with six.

Saturday’s battle between the Warriors and Chickasaws looked to be an even match as SW clawed their way back from a 9-2 deficit early in the first quarter to trail 11-9 after the first.

But it was the second period that New Hampton put the pressure on, forcing Warrior turnovers and scampering on a 20-0 run. Rommes had four of SW’s six points in the quarter with the other two from T. Schweinefus.

The Chickasaws continued to dominate the boards in the third stanza, despite T. Schweinefus’ first two buckets and a free toss. NH carried the third quarter to a 14-0 run to finish it out, 56-20.

Unable to overcome such a deficit with a continuous clock, South Winn succumbed to the Chickasaws, 65-33.

T. Schweinefus was the team’s leading scorer with 15 points, followed by Rommes’ nine.

Off the boards it was  Lensing, Walz, and Christian Kleve snagging six a piece.
