A “Wheelin’ and Squealin’” celebration at the Fair

The Fayette County Fair is celebrating “160 Years of Wheelin’ and Squealin’” in 2013. 

From the daily 4-H/FFA/open livestock shows and Wednesday evening rodeo/calf scramble to the opening night stock races, Thursday evening Mud Bog, and the closing night’s bus races and Hell Drivers stunt show, children of all ages will have plenty of reason to “wheel” onto the fairgrounds in West Union July 23-27.

Hot laps for the stock car races at Fayette County Speedway will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, with the racing action (regular points night) to follow.

Heartland Rodeo will showcase all of the traditional rodeo action beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. The grandstand entertainment will also feature a calf scramble.

Two classes of “mudders” will register to participate in the inaugural Mud Bog in the front of the Fayette County Fair grandstand on Thursday, July 25. The 7 p.m. show includes a 35-inch (tire) and Under class, and 36-inch and Over class.

Following Friday evenings Dead or Alive (for Bon Jovi), Paradise City (Guns N’ Roses), and Silver Bullet (Bob Seger) tribute band concert, the week’s action-packed grandstand entertainment will conclude with the 6 p.m. Bus Races and Hell Drivers stunt show.

Fairgoers are reminded of the free gate admission to the 2013 Fayette County Fair. All grandstand entertainment is $10. Children ages 11 and under will be admitted free.

Plenty to squeal about

Both rural and urban residents won’t want to miss seeing local producers and youth showcase their animals during the various 4-H/FFA (see box),  and open class livestock shows throughout fair week.

According to fair officials, the Open Beef Show will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24. The Open Class Market Hog Show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25. Meanwhile, the Saturday, July 27, schedule includes the 9 a.m. Open Horse Show and Blue Ribbon Dairy Show.
