Lamphier services set for Friday, June 7

Harry D. Lamphier, 78, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at his home in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. 

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, also at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon.

Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harry Del Lamphier was born March 23, 1935, in Lima to Joy and Bonnie (Knoebel) Lamphier. 

After his graduation from Fayette High School in 1953, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, spending most of his enlistment in Germany. 

Following his military service, Harry attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, graduating in 1959. Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in education, he attended Winona State University in Mankato, Minn., where he earned his master’s degree in administration.

On Nov. 27, 1959, Harry married LaVonne Pollow in Sumner. 

For 35 years he served as an elementary school principal in the Dorchester/Waukon area.

Since his retirement, he had enjoyed spending his time at “The Camp” along his beloved Upper Iowa River. He also spent winters in Arizona, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beverly Edwards; his brothers, Bob and Jack; his sisters-in-law, Virginia and Lucy; and his brothers-in-law, Bruce Kline and Bob Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; two daughters, Michelle Lamphier of Waverly and Jennifer (Dennis) Bockhaus of Nora Springs; a son, Michael, of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons, Tony Bockhaus of Cedar Falls, Ben Kwapnioski of Omaha, Neb., and E-2 Seaman Michael Kwapnioski of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Bonnie Kline and Mabel (Frank) Garcia, both of Oelwein, Carol (Steve) Niles and Becky (Bruce) Ingersoll, both of Fayette; many nieces and nephews.
