North Fayette senior Vicky Kapnisis has qualified for the prestigious Drake Relays in both the shot and the discus.
In the shot, Kapnisis will be in flight two as the second thrower; she is the sixth thrower in flight one in the   discus competition.
The girls’ high school shot will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25; the shot is set for 9 a.m. Friday, April 26.
Emily Creery just missed a trip to Des Moines. She was 26th in the discus.
Head coach Mark Nuss said of Creery, “We had the one day of good weather, and I think some people used it to improve their distances. However, only missing by two places is outstanding for just a freshman.”
For Kapnisis, this will be her second straight Drake Relays after qualifying for both events last year. She was ninth in the state in each of the events last season.
The Drake Relays bring together the best track athletes in a three-day competition Thursday through Saturday. The College Division will have some of the best athletes in the country competing on the Blue Oval.
The best high school athletes in the state also compete during the Relays. The top 24 times or distances in each event across the state qualifies for the trip to Des Moines. There are no divisions by class size, only the best times and distances from the entire state.
