Burington services held Saturday

Eleanor R. Burington, 87, of West Union died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2, at United Methodist Church in West Union, Iowa. 

Burial took place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton.

Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of the arrangements.

Eleanor Roseada (Day) Burington, daughter of Arthur and Frances (Brownell) Day, was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Riceville. 

She attended grade school in Hazleton and graduated from high school in Arlington in 1943. She continued her education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for secretarial training. 

Eleanor worked for a short time as a secretary for a car dealership in Oelwein.

She was united in marriage with Forest “Glenn” Burington on Dec. 16, 1945, at Arlington Methodist Church in Arlington. 

Before moving to their farm in rural West Union, the couple farmed near Fayette and Randalia for a short time. Eleanor helped perform many chores on the farm, but her favorite was raising geese.

Eleanor was a member of United Methodist Church in West Union, where she was a member of United Methodist Women. 

She also was a member of the West Union Community Benefit Club and the Swinging Squares, a square dancing club. 

Eleanor loved to go to all family events and fairs. She enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching, and baking pies.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Frances Howe.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Glenn; five children, Morse Burington of Muscatine, Artis (Greg) James of Aurora, Dennis (Sue) Burington of West Union, Willis (Susan) Burington of Cedar Falls, Joyce (Joel) Haack of LaClaire; a brother, Leonard (Sadie) Day; a sister, Dorothy (Duane) Rinderknecht; a sister-in-law, Vida Llwelyn; a son-in-law, Randy Howe; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
