Douglas T. Anderson dies Feb. 15

Douglas T. Anderson, 70, of Fredericksburg died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home in Fredericksburg.

Services will be held at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg at a later date.

Douglas Theodore Anderson was born March 30, 1942, in West Union. He was the son of Lloyd and Ana (Anderson) Anderson.

His early years were spent just outside of Clermont.

Doug joined the Iowa National Guard and served in the Red Bull Division; he did his training in Fort Bragg, La.

Upon his return from the Guard, he met Mary Ann Newport, and they were married in October 1965. To this union two children were born.

The couple lived in Decorah, where Doug worked as a mechanic for several years.

In late 1967, Doug was needed to take over the family farm after the death of his aunt Marion and the ill health of his father, Lloyd. Doug and Mary Ann ran the farm for several years until its sale in 1969. The couple were later divorced.

In June 1976, Doug married Colleen Foster Peters, and together they raised their blended family of six children.

For a number of years Doug was a truck driver, hauling milk for multiple companies. He enjoyed the long hauls, talking on his CB radio under the call sign Rainbow.  He retired in 2010 to the farm outside Fredericksburg, where ill health began to take its toll.

Doug’s parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen; a son, Daniel (Demita) Anderson of Williston, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Mae Anderson (Rex) Lawson of Ostrander; three stepdaughters, Deanna (Wade) Hauser of New Hampton, Elizabeth (Steve) Helgen of Cedar Falls, Annette Peters of Fredericksburg; a stepson, Marty Peters of Alvord; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane (John) Klunder of Australia; and many cousins in the West Union and Clermont area.
