Helen Koester dies Feb. 5

Helen E. Koester, 96, of Eldorado died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette.

Services will be held at a later date at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, West Union, is assisting with the arrangements.

Helen Elizabeth (Schlatter) Koester was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Hawkeye to Leonard and Lizzie (Ungerer) Schlatter.

After her graduation from Hawkeye High School, she attended Upper Iowa University, graduating with a degree in education.

Helen was united in marriage with Arthur Koester on June 10, 1938, at Hawkeye Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. To this union two sons were born.

She was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and WELCA women’s group in Eldorado.

Helen enjoyed gardening, traveling, and playing cards. She was a great cook, and her family will miss the meals she made for them.

Her husband, Arthur, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two sons, Russel Koester of Boulder, Colo., and Wayne (Ann) Koester of Good Thunder, Minn.; two grandchildren, Joel (Alisha) Madrone of Portland, Ore., and Amy (Craig) Jouppi of Duluth, Minn.; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Minkel of Sumner; many nieces, nephews and cousin.

Memorials may be made in Helen Koester’s name to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.
