The Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Classic in Waverly is one of the largest cross country races in eastern Iowa. It is also the most unique since it features races that match runners by grade rather than in straight team competition.

Tuesday’s (Sept. 5) race was run in 65 degree weather with winds at 17 mph.

“I always enjoy this meet,” stated NFV head coach Neal Bentley. “It gives our runners   a chance to compete head to head against runners of the same age in a large race setting.”

NFV volleyball sweeps Turkey Valley

NFV’s Allie Lau lunges for the ball in recent action. The TigerHawk senior not only got to the ball, but she also made a nice dig to keep the ball in play, saving a point. (Jerry Wadian photo)

For Teresa Burrack, the chance to work with children is more a privilege than a job.

The newest North Fayette Valley Community Coalition (NFVCC) Youth Leadership coordinator is ready to hit the ground running when it comes to helping turn middle school students at NFVMS into the leaders of tomorrow.

“I’m going to try to get the middle school students interested in some programs here at the NFVCC Youth and Family Learning Center (YFL) in Elgin,” Burrack explained. “Our goal is to teach the children how to be leaders and how to make good, healthy life choices.”

Woodson shows Nisse and four other dogs at show competitions across the Midwest. It is a hobby he takes very seriously, and he has had success at placing well at several competitions over the years.

Mike Woodson isn’t your typical dog lover.

The Eldorado man has four dogs at his home, and while he enjoys having his canine companions around, he doesn’t have them just to keep him company. Woodson shows his five dogs at shows across the country. The fifth he co-owns, and it lives with his vet.
