The Warriors sent a pair of talented young golfers to the 2017 Iowa High School State Golf Meet in Granger last week as senior Skyler Luzum made her fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament and junior Jaden Schweinefus made her third.

After a disappointing opening day, which saw her shoot an 89, Schweinefus rebounded with a 72 on day two to earn a third-place finish among Class 2A golfers. Her round also came in as the lowest single round score of the tournaments, an entire five strokes lower than the next lowest.

“She struggled with her chipping on day one, but on day two, it all came together,” said coach Doug Schweinefus. “The course is par 71, so she was just one over for the day.”

Luzum opened the tournament with a strong day one, where she shot an 83 and found herself tied for third place going into the second day.

Since Castalia Tractor Days began 25 years ago, the Knutson family of Ossian has been participating in the annual tractor parade. This year, brothers Chuck, Ron, and Mark will proudly lead the parade with their featured tractor, a 1970 Diesel John Deere 4020.

“We bought the tractor in 2009, and it needed a complete overhaul,” said Mark Knutson. “It was a wintertime project that we all worked on for about two years. We put in a new engine, clutch, and pretty much everything else in the front half of the tractor.”
