It’s a story of what might have been if not for the diligent work of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in taking down 34-year-old Oran resident Trevor John Satrom.

What could have easily turned into a tragedy was avoided by the investigative work done by the Sheriff’s Office.

Jim Davis, Fayette County Sheriff’s chief deputy, recently gave presentations on the Oran man, who was arrested Feb. 10, 2016, to citizens in Fayette and Elgin.

“This kind of opens your eyes into small-town Iowa,” Davis said to a crowd of 30 gathered at the Fayette Fire Department. “I know we have had some things happen within the last five years in Fayette County with the Maynard Bank robbers shooting ARs, all kinds of crazy drug arrests, murder-suicides. This is to let people know we’re not protected here in little Fayette County; this is here, and it has changed how we work as first responders. As law enforcement, we see it on TV and think it doesn't happen here, but it does.”
