­­ Joseph Schildmeyer, 86, of Ossian, Iowa died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa. Joseph Henry was born on March 27, 1930 to Henry and Elizabeth (Wülf) Schildmeyer in St. Lucas, Iowa. He attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School through the eighth grade.  Joseph was united in marriage with Caroline Holthaus on September 29, 1952.

Kim Zweibohmer, 58, of Ossian, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his home in Ossian. Kimball Jon, the son of Leonard and Eunice Marie (Lansing) Zweibohmer, was born May 11, 1957 in Decorah, Iowa. He attended elementary and middle school at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Ossian and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1975. Kim attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Kim was a deejay in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area for many years.  He returned to Ossian in 2004.  Kim was a manager at the Decorah Subway and was currently working at Nordic Express in Decorah.

Kim enjoyed staying in contact with his friends through Facebook and collecting Christopher Radko Ornaments.  He loved Christmas, shopping, and staying current with all types of music. He was also an Avon dealer.

Kim was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Marx busy in successful first year

 

April 1 marked the completion of one year in office for Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx. After a busy year that led to many accomplishments, Marx was quick to give credit to the entire Sheriff’s Office staff, including (l-r) civil clerk Christina Hirsch, jailer Ian Kemp, civil clerk Diana Wilharm, Marx, and Deputy Tim Felton. For Dan Marx, it has been a busy and eventful past year. After being appointed and sworn in as Winneshiek County Sheriff on April 1, 2015, the 14-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office hit the ground running.

“I would describe year one as extremely intense, but in a positive way,” explained Marx. “It has really gone by fast.”

The Ossian City Council gathered Monday evening for its monthly meeting. All members of the council were present, as well as approximately a dozen guests or persons wishing to address the council.

The meeting began with several members of the Carey’s Park Pavilion Committee speaking to the council.

A committee representative shared the financial status of the project, revealing that the estimated cost to finish the park as designed would be approximately $105,000. He went on to say that some of the masonry work and AV equipment could be omitted from the project, dropping the total cost to finish to approximately $80,000.

Beulahland Christian Camp in Elgin has a new camp director who is originally from Congo.  

Lebon Mulangaliro was born in the Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1992 near Lake Tanganyika. His family migrated to Kenya in 1996 due to a civil war.

There will be lessons every Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. except the final week of each month, when the lessons will be moved to Thursday due to the Opera House being booked.

The West Central boys’ golf team will be a seasoned bunch since it returns the entire 2015 squad.

The Blue Devils will have six seniors, two juniors, and a freshman competing for spots this year.
